About Gary Coleman
Gary Coleman's art career had a long gestation period, its academic inception going back to grade school where his preoccupation with drawing contributed to his earning a second try at first grade. He would not feel comfortable calling himself an artist until many years later, after his retirement from thirty years of teaching high school English and history. Gary minored in art and majored in English at San Jose State University, with the intention of becoming a suffering writer. I love your pervasive landscape style: so often the smooth and rounded hills, often in layers or even interwoven such as those here -- like cards being shuffled! And the scattered blue and/or green here, moving from the dark bottom up to the light and blank sky above as if a sandwich of two-toned hills, dull yellow merging to orange shadows, is nicely punctuated by the scattered blue or green oversimplified trees and bushes, and the darker-than-the-sky blue of the shadows in, evidently little zig zag gullies, or along a zig zag creek, and the shadows of trees! These lanscapes you do are all to pleasant, restful to the eye, yet gently moving their concentration along, back-and-forth.
